Welcome to Café y Barismo!

Hello everyone! Welcome to Café y Barismo!

My name is Joseph A. Torres-González, and I am a doctoral student in Cultural Anthropology at the CUNY Graduate Center. This website is part of my final project for the Interactive Technology and Pedagogy program, of which I am also a student!

My main goal with this project is to create a teaching-tool that is useful, accessible, and interesting for students, faculty, and community members that are interested in topics related to food (coffee), economy, culture, environment, and consumption. With the growth of Open Educational Resources (OER), along with new approaches to pedagogy and technology, I planned this page as an opportunity to integrate a lesson guide, activities that can be used when teaching Political Economy, Culture, and Consumption, along with a list of suggested readings and documentaries that can be integrated when preparing lessons at the college-level. This is the first phase of the project; future additions (such as the inclusion of bibliographic and audiovisual resources in the Spanish-language) will be added and refined along the way.

I would like to thank my project mentor Prof. Maura A. Smale (Anthropologist & Chief Librarian at the Ursula C. Schwerin Library at New York City College of Technology, CUNY and Professor of the Interactive Technology & Pedagogy Program), my professors from ITP Core 1, Dr. Ximena Gallardo (Professor of English, LaGuardia Community College, CUNY), & Dr. Christina Nadler (Postdoctoral Fellow, Macaulay Honors College, CUNY), my professors from ITP Core 2, Prof. Michael Mandiberg (Professor of Media Culture, College of Staten Island, CUNY & Coordinator of the ITP Certificate Program) and Dr. Sonia K. González (Assistant Professor of Public Health, University of Texas at Austin). Also, many thanks to my amazing 2019-2020 ITP Cohort and to our ITP Program Administrator Julia Fuller.

Thank you for visiting my teaching resource, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did when I created it!
